South Korean cultural festivals Changwon Pan Festa and Busan Biennale to begin

South Korea is hosting two major cultural events in late August. The Changwon Pan Festa will take place on August 29 and 30 at Masan Haeyang Nuri Park. This outdoor performing arts festival features traditional Korean arts, including Madanggeuk (traditional mask dance drama), traditional folk performances, and creative Pansori. The event is designed to bring performers and audiences close together in an open seaside setting, with all performances offered free of charge.

Simultaneously, the 2026 Busan Biennale is scheduled to run from August 29 to November 1 under the theme ‘Dissident Chorus’. The exhibition will be held across three locations: the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art, Space One-ji in Yeongdo, and the former Busan Nam High School. The biennale features 46 artists from 22 countries, showcasing diverse genres such as installation, sound, performance, video, and sculpture. While some venues require an admission fee, exhibitions at Space One-ji and the former high school are free to the public.
