South Korean cultural weeks held in Dominican Republic and Cuba

Cultural celebrations dedicated to South Korea are taking place in the Dominican Republic and Cuba to promote bilateral ties and traditional arts.

In the Dominican Republic, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea organized “Korean Week 2026” at the Universidad Iberoamericana (Unibe). Under the theme “Two cultures, one rhythm: Korea and the Dominican Republic,” the event featured musical fusions between Korean traditional instruments and Dominican genres like merengue and bachata. Highlights included a performance by the ensemble G-HWAJA and a “K-Bachata” presentation. The event also included information sessions regarding the Korean Government Scholarship (GKS) program.

In Cuba, a cultural week is being held in Havana, organized by ArtCor in collaboration with the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the South Korean Embassy. The program focuses on community outreach through artistic presentations, educational talks, and food tastings. This year’s edition places a special emphasis on Hangul, the Korean alphabet, to highlight national identity. Activities include outdoor exhibitions and musical parades aimed at connecting traditional Korean elements with the local population.
