South Korean dementia care centers launch community awareness initiatives

Dementia care centers in South Korea are conducting various initiatives to improve public awareness and support early detection of the disease.

In Incheon, the Michuhol-gu Dementia Care Center partnered with the Seokbawi Market Merchants Association to host a campaign titled ‘Value Together, Memory Care.’ The initiative provided on-site screening services for market merchants who face difficulties visiting medical centers due to their work schedules. The campaign also included educational quizzes for visitors and the designation of the merchants' association as a ‘Dementia Overcoming Leading Group’ to foster a more supportive community environment.

In Seoul, the Gwangjin-gu Dementia Care Center received its fourth commendation from the Ministry of Health and Welfare for excellence in dementia programs. The center has implemented diverse community projects, including health lectures and the ‘Memory Cafe,’ where residents with mild dementia serve beverages to promote social inclusion. These efforts aim to build a comprehensive management system that supports residents from prevention and early diagnosis through to long-term care.
