South Korean districts conduct multi-agency disaster response drills
Multiple districts in South Korea are conducting the ‘2026 Disaster Response Safety Korea Training’ to strengthen cooperation between public and private agencies and improve field response capabilities for complex disasters.
In Busan’s Geumjeong District, a drill was held at the Geumjeong Cultural Center simulating a magnitude 6.5 earthquake near the Yangsan Fault. The scenario included falling ceiling materials, power outages, gas leaks, and crowd crush incidents during a performance. The exercise involved approximately 200 participants, including fire, police, and medical services.
In Seoul’s Eunpyeong District, a large-scale drill involving 400 participants from 20 organizations is scheduled for October 30. The simulation focuses on a wildfire in Bukhansan National Park occurring during an event at a public parking lot, which could lead to crowd accidents and rapid fire spread due to strong winds.
In Seoul’s Gangnam District, a joint civil-government-military drill is set for October 29 at the Tower Palace 1st apartment complex. Given the high density of skyscrapers in the area, the training simulates a simultaneous gas explosion and large-scale fire in a high-rise building to test rescue, emergency medical, and recovery procedures.
