South Korean education offices announce 2027 teacher recruitment

Educational authorities in South Korea have announced recruitment plans for secondary school teachers for the 2027 academic year.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will select 694 public secondary teachers, including special education, health, nutrition, library, and professional counseling specialists. This represents a 30.6% decrease from the previous year's 1,000 positions. Notably, the number of subject teachers has dropped from 900 to 584, with mathematics positions nearly halved from 158 to 81. Applications will be accepted online from October 12 to 16, with the first round of exams scheduled for November 28.

In Chungbuk, the provincial office announced the selection of 238 secondary teachers, consisting of 185 public and 53 private school positions. The recruitment includes 23 general subjects and 12 subjects for applicants with disabilities. Application procedures will run from October 12 to 16 via the online teacher recruitment system. The first examination is set for November 28, followed by practical evaluations and interviews in January 2027.
