South Korean energy firms target Japan's green transition market
South Korean renewable energy and nuclear power component, material, and equipment companies are targeting the Japanese market during the Smart Energy Week 2026 in Chiba. The initiative aims to tap into Japan’s massive Green Transformation (GX) investment plan, which seeks to mobilize approximately 150 trillion yen over the next decade to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
The Korea Energy Agency is operating a joint Korean pavilion to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by facilitating one-on-one consultations with local buyers and providing assistance with overseas certifications. Participating technologies include solar hybrid systems, building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), perovskite solar cells, and small wind power generators.
Simultaneously, KOTRA, in collaboration with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and the Korea Nuclear Association, has dispatched a climate tech market development team. This group includes 17 specialized companies engaging with approximately 50 Japanese firms, including major players like Hitachi and Toshiba. The increased demand for power equipment in Japan is being driven by the expansion of data centers and semiconductor factories due to the rise of artificial intelligence.
