South Korean energy sector advances safety and regulatory reforms

South Korean energy and gas safety organizations are implementing various regulatory and operational updates. The Gyeonggi LPG Sales Association is pushing for local ordinances to support LPG container re-inspection costs, following similar moves in several other municipalities. The association is also investigating damages caused by the transition from LPG to city gas and piped networks.

Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) has obtained space safety certification for all five of its LNG production bases, including facilities in Pyeongtaek, Incheon, Tongyeong, Samcheok, and Jeju. This follows efforts to improve fire prevention and disaster management systems.

Meanwhile, the Korea Gas Safety Corporation is focusing on redesigning regulations to be more effective for businesses and the public. The organization is reviewing 53 regulatory improvement tasks and strengthening accident prevention strategies targeting industrial sites and residential areas.

In the corporate sector, SK Gas has resolved to merge with its subsidiary, SK Advanced. The move aims to integrate the propane procurement and propylene production value chain to improve operational and financial efficiency amid global supply fluctuations.
