South Korean fire authorities enhance safety inspections and regional cooperation
South Korean fire authorities are implementing new safety measures and cooperation protocols to manage regional emergencies. In Pohang, the Nambu Fire Station conducted field inspections of resource circulation and waste management facilities. These inspections follow a series of fires in the Nam-gu area this year, including incidents at the Hodong landfill and various waste processing sites. Officials focused on verifying fire prevention systems, storage compliance, and initial response capabilities to mitigate the risk of large-scale fires and toxic gas emissions.
Separately, the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Fire Headquarters is strengthening joint response systems between adjacent jurisdictions. Data shows 549 mutual dispatch incidents occurred between Gwangju and Jeonnam over a three-month period. To improve efficiency, fire stations such as Gwangsan and Jangseong have begun exchanging expertise on operating specialized firefighting vehicles, including chemical and electric vehicle fire response equipment. The headquarters plans to expand these joint training exercises and regional cooperation through the end of the year.
