South Korean firms partner on smart building and AI elevator technologies

South Korean companies are advancing smart building and infrastructure technologies through new strategic partnerships.

Hyundai Glovis and Samsung C&T have signed a memorandum of understanding to co-develop smart building logistics automation and robot delivery services. The collaboration focuses on using autonomous mobile robots (AMR) to automate the collection, storage, and delivery of mail and parcels within buildings, aiming to deliver items directly to users' desks. The companies plan to conduct technical proof-of-concept tests next year to establish a commercialized service model using AI and robotics.

Separately, LG Uplus and Hyundai Elevator have partnered to enhance AI-based remote monitoring systems for elevators. The agreement involves applying LG Uplus’s machine-to-machine (M2M) services to Hyundai Elevator’s ‘MIRI’ platform to improve connection stability. The partnership also includes developing AI voice recognition for emergency calls to filter out non-urgent inquiries and exploring the integration of cloud-based security solutions to improve passenger safety and system reliability.
