South Korean First Lady Kim Hye-kyung attends Arirang‑Tango concert in Buenos Aires
Kim Hye-kyung, the first lady of South Korea, joined President Lee Jae‑myung on a state visit to Argentina and attended a cultural concert on 31 August in Buenos Aires. The event, held at the Usina del Arte concert hall, marked the 20th anniversary of the Korean Cultural Center in Argentina and featured a joint performance of Korea’s folk song “Arirang” and Argentine tango. About 400 guests, including the spouse of Buenos Aires mayor María Belén Ludueña and culture minister Gabriela Ricardez, watched the collaboration of the Buenos Aires Tango Orchestra and the National Gugak Center’s creative ensemble.
Kim Hye‑kyung praised the shared emotions in both traditions, noting that “Arirang and tango, each a heartbeat, together create one rhythm,” and highlighted that both pieces are listed as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. The concert aimed to deepen Korea‑Argentina friendship through cultural exchange.
