South Korean government advances prosecution reform and lifts flight zone restrictions

During a cabinet meeting in Sejong City, Prime Minister Han Seong-suk announced that the government is entering the final stages of prosecution reform. The restructuring, which includes the launch of the Major Crimes Investigation Agency and the Prosecution Service on October 2, aims to separate investigation and indictment powers to protect citizen rights. To support this transition, the government will establish a Police Reform Committee and a task force under the Prime Minister’s Office to ensure a fair public security system.

Additionally, the Ministry of National Defense confirmed the lifting or reduction of flight safety zone altitude restrictions covering approximately 19.82 square kilometers (6 million pyeong) near Susaek Airfield. Following an amendment to the Military Bases and Military Facilities Protection Act, the airfield will be reclassified from a support aviation operational base to a helicopter-only operational base. This change is expected to facilitate urban development in areas including Sangam-dong, Susaek-dong, and various districts in Goyang City, such as Deokeun-dong and Hwajeon-dong, by removing building height limits of up to 45 meters.
