South Korean government resolves 309 recurring National Audit issues

The South Korean government has completed improvements for 309 cases that were repeatedly flagged during National Audits over the past five years. Following a comprehensive review of 631 recurring issues across 131 central administrative and public institutions, the Office for Government Policy Coordination announced that nearly half of the identified problems have been resolved through legislative amendments or project normalization.

Key achievements include the resumption of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway project, which had been stalled since July 2023. Other significant measures involve the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism implementing laws to ban illegal ticket scalping with fines up to 50 times the original price, and the Korean National Police Agency distributing 5,200 advanced smartwatches to protect victims of stalking and domestic violence.

Additionally, the Ministry of Justice plans to expand prison capacity by 4,263 spots by 2030 to address overcrowding. For the remaining 322 cases, the government has established implementation directions for 256 items and will continue to monitor 66 long-term tasks to ensure administrative accountability.
