South Korean health authorities honor Gangnam-gu and Giheung-gu for mental health services
The South Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare has awarded commendations to Gangnam-gu and the Giheung-gu Health Center in Yongin for their significant contributions to community mental health and safety nets.
Gangnam-gu was recognized for establishing a comprehensive management system that spans from prevention and early detection to counseling and rehabilitation. Key initiatives include the ‘Sai-Shim’ psychological support center for youth in the Daechi-dong academy district and the Gangnam-gu Addiction Management Integrated Support Center, which addresses issues including drugs, gambling, and digital media addiction.
Giheung-gu Health Center received the award for its efforts in supporting the social reintegration of patients with mental illnesses and managing high-risk suicide groups. Notably, the center established a partnership to operate Gyeonggi Province’s first 24/7 mental health emergency public beds, ensuring rapid response during nights and holidays through cooperation with police, fire departments, and medical institutions.
