South Korean hospitals reach milestones in Pulsed Field Ablation for atrial fibrillation

South Korean medical institutions are reaching significant milestones in the treatment of atrial fibrillation using Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA), a modern technique that uses high-voltage electrical pulses to selectively target heart muscle cells.

Dankook University Hospital announced it has achieved 100 PFA procedures, marking the first such milestone in the Chungcheong region. The procedure offers advantages over traditional thermal or cooling-based ablation methods by reducing the risk of damage to surrounding tissues, such as the esophagus or nerves, and shortening procedure times.

Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital has reached 500 PFA procedures, making it the third institution in South Korea and the first outside the capital region to achieve this volume. The hospital has also recorded 8,000 total catheter ablation procedures and has been designated as a training center for radiation-free PFA, providing education to medical professionals both domestically and internationally.
