South Korean industrial labor and management reach new wage agreements

Labor and management in South Korea's industrial sector have reached significant agreements to avoid strikes and ensure stability.

In the Yeosu Industrial Complex, plant construction labor and management signed the 2026 wage and collective bargaining agreement. This marks the sixth consecutive year of dispute-free, early settlements. The agreement includes increases in allowances for skilled workers and welders, as well as provisions for paid union activities and holidays. Local government officials attended the signing to promote a collaborative environment for businesses and workers.

Separately, Kumho Tire labor and management have reached a tentative agreement for the 2026 collective bargaining, averting a potential strike. The proposal includes a 3% increase in base pay and various performance-based bonuses. The agreement focuses on maintaining domestic plant operations and ensuring job security amidst management uncertainties such as factory fires and tariff issues. A final vote by union members is scheduled for later this month.
