South Korean institutions expand AI education and industry integration
South Korean institutions are expanding artificial intelligence (AI) integration through academic restructuring and municipal education initiatives.
Hansung University has announced a plan to reorganize its educational system around AI starting in the 2027 academic year. The university will transform its existing Design College into an AI Design College and its Creative Convergence College into an AI Convergence College. Additionally, a new Department of AI Mechanical Robotics will be established to combine AI software with hardware technologies like robotics and physical systems.
In Hwaseong Special City, local government is launching an ‘AI Innovation School’ to provide systematic training for citizens, civil servants, businesses, and students. The initiative includes the operation of an AI Innovation Center and hands-on ‘AI Labs’ to facilitate practical learning with generative AI. The city is also training ‘AI Citizen Leaders’ to share knowledge within the community and plans to host the ‘MARS 2026’ global AI expo in November to connect industries such as autonomous driving, robotics, and healthcare.
