South Korean institutions launch social support and disability education programs
Educational and social institutions in South Korea are launching initiatives to support vulnerable populations through mentoring and specialized vocational training.
Dongguk University BioMedical Campus (BMC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) Goyang Branch and the Samsong Local Children's Center. The ‘Donghaeng Mentoring’ program, set to begin in October, will provide learning and experiential opportunities for underprivileged children in Goyang. Dongguk University students will serve as learning assistants, while LH will support career mentoring and field experience programs for both students and children.
Separately, Hosun University has been selected for the Ministry of Education’s ‘2026 Regional Leading University Project for Supporting Students with Disabilities.’ In collaboration with Daesin University, Daegu University, and Keimyung Cultural University, the program provides customized education for 48 university students with developmental disabilities in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. The curriculum includes practical training in areas such as furniture making, cleaning, food and beverage manufacturing, art psychological rehabilitation, and AI digital office skills, alongside field trips to industrial sites and social adaptation training.
