South Korean investment in Batam surges to Rp1.17 trillion
South Korean investment in Batam reached Rp1.175 trillion (approximately USD 65.1 million) in the first half of 2026, marking a 4,169.8 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This figure is 34.1 times higher than the total South Korean investment recorded throughout 2025.
According to data from the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, South Korea has become the third-largest foreign investor in Batam, contributing 6.60 percent of the region's total foreign direct investment. There has been a significant sectoral shift: while 2025 investments were spread across fisheries, transportation, electronics, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals, 99.6 percent of the investment in the first half of 2026 was concentrated in the transportation, warehousing, and telecommunications sectors, with PT Bandara Internasional Batam serving as a primary driver.
In response to this momentum, a delegation from BP Batam attended the South Korea Aero Summit 2026 in Seoul to pursue new business opportunities. Led by Investment Deputy Fary Djemy Francis, the delegation promoted Batam's aviation industry potential, specifically targeting aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, air cargo, and the development of the Hang Nadim International Airport supply chain.
