South Korean labor authorities inspect high-risk machinery at manufacturing sites

The Ministry of Employment and Labor is conducting intensive safety inspections at manufacturing sites to prevent serious industrial accidents. These inspections, scheduled from September 7 to 11, focus on high-risk machinery such as forklifts, cranes, hoists, and conveyors.

In the Gyeonggi region, the local labor office conducted unannounced visits to metal processing facilities in Hwaseong to inspect the safety management of hoists and other heavy equipment. Inspectors emphasized the importance of using appropriate lifting tools, installing hook release devices, and controlling access to areas where heavy loads are handled.

Similarly, the Chungju regional office is targeting approximately 200 manufacturing workplaces. The inspections aim to mitigate risks such as collisions, crushing, and entanglement. Authorities noted that high-risk machinery accounted for 25% of industrial fatalities in the manufacturing sector during the first half of the year. Businesses found in violation of safety regulations may face fines or judicial action if corrective measures are not implemented.
