South Korean lawmaker criticizes power resource diversion for Honam semiconductor hub
National Assembly member Yoon Jae-ok has raised concerns regarding the South Korean government's plan to accelerate power supply for the Honam semiconductor industrial complex. According to documents from the Ministry of Climate, Energy, Environment and Labor, the government proposed diverting transformers originally intended for other regional substations to expedite construction in the Honam region.
The proposed diversion targets five substations, including the Shin-Dalseong substation in Daegu, which serves major local industrial hubs. Critics argue that prioritizing the Honam semiconductor project could significantly delay power infrastructure completion in other regions, such as pushing the Shin-Dalseong substation's completion from 2028 to 2030.
Additionally, controversy has arisen regarding the relocation of Gwangju military airbases to Yecheon and Seosan, which has faced local opposition.
