South Korean Lawmaker Han Dong-hoon Criticizes Plan to End Prosecution's Supplementary Investigation Power

Independent lawmaker Han Dong‑hoon addressed a closed briefing of the National Assembly’s defense and security committee, denouncing the Democratic Party’s effort to abolish the prosecution’s supplementary investigation authority. He warned that eliminating this power could trigger a wave of “Jang Yoon‑gi‑type” cases, referencing the 2020 murder of a schoolgirl and alleged evidence‑tampering by a police officer who is the perpetrator’s father. Han posted on Facebook that without the prosecutor’s supplementary investigation, evidence destruction by police would go unchecked, arguing the move threatens public safety and the rule of law.

He also accused the Lee Jae‑myung administration and the Democratic Party of prioritising party politics over justice, claiming they would side with murderers if the reform passes.
