South Korean lawmakers criticize 800‑trillion‑won Honam semiconductor funding plan
Opposition legislator An Cheol‑soo warned that the government's proposal to create a semiconductor cluster in the Honam region, backed by an 800 trillion‑won investment, amounts to a “blank cheque.” He argued that the plan lacks a clear financing source and called for a halt to the special‑account financing until Parliament reviews it.
Lawmaker Lee Jin‑sook also denounced the proposal, highlighting the concentration of four memory‑fab projects in Honam and questioning the use of heroic language by President Lee Jae‑myung toward business leaders. Both politicians urged greater transparency on how the massive spending will be funded and insisted on parliamentary oversight of the special account intended for the project.
