South Korean lawmakers criticize US House report on Coupang data breach

South Korea’s Democratic Party expressed regret over a U.S. House Judiciary Committee report that labeled a recent Korean parliamentary hearing on Coupang’s data‑breach scandal as discriminatory. Party spokesperson Jang Yun‑mi said the government’s investigation of the company, which compromised the personal data of 33.79 million citizens, was a necessary response to protect digital rights, while the U.S. report unfairly highlighted only Coupang’s perspective.

The report also claimed that Korean officials treat U.S.‑based firms with hostility, a charge the party rejected, urging the ruling party and opposition to refrain from politicising the issue.
