South Korean legislative updates regarding local cooperation and marine tourism
In Gwangyang, the City Council passed an ordinance aimed at activating and supporting collaborative intermediate support organizations. Proposed by Council Member Jeong Hoe-gi, the ordinance seeks to prevent budget duplication and administrative waste by establishing a cooperative system among various sectors, including village communities, resident autonomy, urban regeneration, and the social economy. The measure includes provisions for designating organizations, establishing an information-sharing system, and creating a committee to foster horizontal cooperation without forced mergers.
Separately, National Assembly member Ju Cheol-hyeon has proposed an amendment to the Marine Leisure Tourism Promotion Act. The amendment aims to provide a legal basis for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to delegate specific tasks to the Marine Leisure Tourism Association and provide financial support for those duties. This move is intended to better utilize the association’s expertise and field experience to support the growth of the marine leisure tourism industry.
