South Korean libraries host events for Reading Month

Public libraries in Wonju and the Jecheon Student Center are hosting various cultural programs throughout September to celebrate ‘Reading Month’.

In Wonju, several libraries are offering diverse activities. The Saenggakjaram Children’s Library is hosting media art exhibitions, author meetings with Kang Hyo-mi, and various craft workshops. The Picture Book Library is organizing lectures by author Chae In-seon and offering expanded book loan limits. Saemmaru Library features lectures by Booker Prize nominee Bora Chung and poet Hwang In-chan, alongside a book flea market and orchestral performances. Taejang Library is focusing on a ‘book garden’ theme with poet Go Chang-young, while Mirinae Library will operate an outdoor library at night and host several author lectures.

In Jecheon, the Jecheon Student Center is conducting programs from September 1 to 30. Highlights include a concert and lecture by children’s book author Shin Yu-mi, as well as hands-on workshops such as terrarium making and leather crafting. The center is also offering incentives for library users, including doubling the number of books allowed for loan and immediate lifting of loan suspensions for those returning overdue books.
