South Korean libraries host ‘October Sky’ science lectures
Public libraries in South Korea, including Kkum-irang Library in Tongyeong and Chilgok County Library, are hosting the ‘October Sky’ science lecture series on October 31. The program, co-hosted by the Korean Library Association and the October Sky Preparatory Committee, features scientists volunteering their expertise to inspire youth and local residents.
At Kkum-irang Library, sessions will cover artificial intelligence in medical settings and alternative scientific technologies to replace animal testing. In Chilgok County, lectures will focus on the future of robotics, presented by Dr. Na Seong-in from the University of Manchester, and the relationship between mosquitoes and infectious diseases, presented by an epidemiological investigator from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.
The initiative is inspired by the film ‘October Sky’ and aims to bridge the gap between current scientists and future generations by providing insights into various scientific career paths.
