South Korean libraries launch September Reading Month programs

Various libraries in South Korea are launching specialized programs throughout September to celebrate Reading Month and promote literacy among children.

In Gangnam-gu, Yeoksam Library is hosting the ‘Laughing Out Loud! Picture Book Theater’ at the LH Suseo 1st Complex Small Library. Running from September 9 to 30, this program for children aged 5 to 6 combines storytelling with physical and sensory activities. Led by instructor Ra Kyung-rim, the sessions use specific picture books to teach social skills, balance, and hygiene through interactive play.

In Incheon, the Kkumdream Children's English Library in Jeomulpo-gu is offering a variety of English-centric activities. Programs include a favorite English picture book recommendation event, sticker rewards for borrowing English books, and a Sunday cinema series featuring English animations. The library is also distributing back issues of magazines and hosting a ‘Delinquent Release Day’ to encourage residents to return overdue books and resume library services.
