South Korean local councils begin budget and ordinance reviews
Local councils in South Korea have commenced regular sessions to review budgets and legislative matters.
In Gangnam District, Council Member Woo Jong-hyeok emphasized the need for welfare policies to move beyond simple budget execution. During the review of the 2025 fiscal year settlement and the 2026 supplementary budget, Woo argued that performance should be measured by actual improvements in residents' lives and user satisfaction rather than just quantitative indicators like spending rates.
Meanwhile, the Bonghwa County Council has entered its 281st regular session, scheduled from the 14th to the 22nd. The council is set to deliberate on the 2025 fiscal year settlement, the 2026 second supplementary budget, and various local ordinances. Proposed legislation includes support for national heritage protectors, agricultural safety, and local police affairs. Council Chairman Lee Seung-hun stated the session aims to rigorously evaluate previous spending and ensure the efficient use of tax revenue for regional economic stability.
