South Korean local councils focus on administrative audits and policy priorities

Local councils in South Korea are focusing on administrative oversight and strategic planning for new government terms.

The Seocheon County Council has opened a period for public reports from September 1 to September 11 to prepare for its 2026 administrative audit. Residents are encouraged to submit information regarding illegal or unfair administrative practices, budget waste, or suggestions for institutional improvement via the council's website. The audit itself is scheduled to take place from October 12 to October 23 during the 347th regular session.

In Yecheon, the County Council held a session to review the priorities of the ninth popularly elected administration. Vice Chairman Jang Sam-gyu urged the executive branch to apply a strategy of ‘selection and focus’ to the 66 planned projects, emphasizing that limited resources should be directed toward core tasks to ensure tangible results for residents. In response, Yecheon County Mayor Ahn Byeong-yun stated that projects would be categorized into ‘future strategic tasks,’ such as industrial complex revitalization and medical school recruitment, and ‘life-oriented livelihood tasks,’ such as youth entrepreneurship and smart farm development, to promote balanced regional growth.
