South Korean local councils hold forums on hydrogen mobility and circular economy

Local government bodies in Gyeonggi Province are hosting discussions to advance carbon neutrality through hydrogen energy and circular economy policies.

In Seongnam, Vice Chairperson of the Seongnam City Council Jeong Yeon-hwa led a forum focused on transitioning to a future-oriented urban transportation system. The discussion addressed the expansion of hydrogen bus services and the urgent need for charging infrastructure. Experts suggested a long-term roadmap involving administration, transport companies, and energy firms, while emphasizing the need to secure sites for additional hydrogen charging stations to prevent operational disruptions.

In Yongin, the council's research group ‘Carbon Neutrality Institute IV’ held a meeting to explore policy development through a circular economy. The session focused on resource circulation, reuse, and recycling to integrate with Yongin's broader carbon neutrality goals. Participants discussed ways to reduce resource use during production and consumption stages and emphasized the importance of public-private cooperation and citizen participation in establishing local resource circulation systems.
