South Korean local governments advance youth welfare and policy participation

Local government initiatives in South Korea are focusing on enhancing youth welfare and civic participation. In Michuhol-gu, Incheon, the Youth Counseling and Welfare Center held the 3rd Youth Welfare Working Committee meeting to address high-risk youth facing mental health and behavioral challenges. The committee discussed case management for adolescents exhibiting impulsivity, aggression, and rule-breaking behaviors, emphasizing the need for inter-agency cooperation and specialized intervention strategies to strengthen the local youth safety net.

In Siheung, the Siheung Youth and Young Adult Foundation hosted the 4th Youth Policy Proposal Presentation. During the event, 143 members from 11 youth participation groups presented 22 policy proposals covering areas such as transportation safety, environment, education, and disability accessibility. The foundation reported that 86.5% of the policy tasks proposed in 2024 are currently being implemented or are under mid-to-long-term review, demonstrating a high rate of integration between youth suggestions and actual municipal administration.
