South Korean local governments conclude administrative audits

Local governments in South Korea have concluded significant administrative reviews. In Geochang County, a self-audit for the first half of 2026 revealed 171 administrative violations, 76 million won in financial discrepancies, and 4 disciplinary actions against personnel. The audit identified recurring issues in construction management, such as contracting unlicensed firms and failing to conduct required inspections. Other findings included improper tax collection, mismanagement of welfare support for the disabled, and errors in overtime pay and budget execution across various townships.

Separately, the 10th Cheongyang County Council completed its first administrative audit. The council reviewed budget execution, major projects, and public services. Key areas of focus included ecological restoration projects, the fairness of private contracts, public vehicle management, and safety improvements for bicycle paths. Council members also called for enhanced mental health support, improved medical services at local health centers, and better management of agricultural labor shortages and welfare services for the elderly.
