South Korean local governments strengthen volunteer networks
Local governments in South Korea are strengthening cooperation with volunteer organizations to improve disaster response and community engagement.
In Uiseong County, officials held an educational session for the Uiseong Integrated Volunteer Support Group. Approximately 60 representatives from various local organizations, including women's associations, fire brigades, and the Red Cross, participated. The training focused on establishing a systematic response network to ensure rapid and coordinated volunteer activities during natural disasters.
In Changwon, Mayor Kang Ki-yoon met with executives from the Changwon Volunteer Group Council to discuss ways to encourage sustained participation. The meeting addressed the challenges faced by volunteers in the field and explored methods to improve working conditions. The discussion also highlighted recent volunteer efforts in flood recovery in the Geoje region.
