South Korean local governments win awards for AI administrative innovation

South Korean local governments have received top honors at the 43rd Regional Informatization Best Practice Presentation Contest for their innovative use of artificial intelligence in public administration.

Incheon Metropolitan City was awarded the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award for its ‘AI-based multi-use facility evacuation guidance system.’ The technology uses AI algorithms and 3D digital twins to analyze real-time situations in complex environments like subway stations, providing optimal escape routes during disasters. The system utilizes LoRa wireless communication to transmit fire locations and evacuation data, aiming to secure critical golden time for citizen safety.

Gwangjin-gu received the Prime Minister's Award for a field-driven AI innovation model. An administrative official developed six different AI-powered work tools using generative AI and ‘vibe coding’ to reduce repetitive tasks and improve administrative efficiency. This achievement was recognized for demonstrating how non-professional developers can leverage AI to solve practical workplace challenges.
