South Korean local leaders seek national funding for regional projects

Local government leaders from Damyang and Hampyeong counties visited the National Assembly to request national budget allocations for various regional development projects.

In Damyang, County Governor Park Jong-won met with the Minister of Economy and Finance and several lawmakers to advocate for the Dalbit Railway construction project, estimated at 4.5158 trillion won. Other requested projects include sewage system improvements in Ssangtae Village and the creation of a modern missionary complex to boost tourism. Park emphasized that the Dalbit Railway would serve as a vital logistics network connecting industrial hubs across the Honam, Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, and Yeongnam regions.

Hampyeong County Governor Lee Nam-oh also met with government officials and members of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts to secure funding for 2027. Key proposals include the establishment of a Hanwoo genetic resource center, the construction of a traffic safety education center, and the expansion of the Bitgreen National Industrial Complex to attract semiconductor and future vehicle industries. Lee also requested support for the Rural Basic Income project to combat regional population decline.
