South Korean man arrested for mother-in-law murder and wife kidnapping

A man in his 20s has been arrested for the murder of his mother-in-law and the kidnapping of his wife in Seoul. The suspect, who was facing an annulment of marriage lawsuit, allegedly tracked the family's movements using information potentially exposed through legal documents during the litigation process.

Family members have expressed intense grief and anger, alleging that the victim's daughter had been subjected to over a year of confinement, physical abuse, and gaslighting by the suspect. They claim the marriage itself was forced through coercion and violence.

The family is also criticizing the police response. They allege that the Suwon Gwonseon Police Station failed to act effectively despite receiving evidence of domestic violence and medical certificates documenting the abuse. Specifically, they claim the police failed to reapply for a restraining order immediately after a previous one expired and failed to execute search warrants because the suspect was not present at his residence or workplace. The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency has launched an official inspection into the matter.
