South Korean man arrested for murdering wife after tracking her via divorce papers

A male public official in his 30s has been arrested for the murder of his wife and child abuse after tracking her down to a hiding place. The suspect allegedly used the residential address disclosed in divorce litigation documents to locate the victim in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province.

The crime occurred in the presence of the couple's five-year-old daughter. The suspect faces charges of murder and violations of the Child Welfare Act. The court granted the arrest warrant, citing a risk of flight.

The victim's family has expressed outrage, highlighting systemic failures in victim protection. Despite the victim having requested police protection and a smartwatch, the suspect successfully located her through legal documents. The family noted that while measures exist to hide personal information during litigation, many victims are unaware of the necessary procedures to request such privacy, leaving them vulnerable to retaliatory crimes.
