South Korean man detained for fatal abuse of two-month-old daughter

A man in his 40s has been detained and referred to prosecutors on charges of child abuse resulting in death after fatally assaulting his two-month-old daughter in Osan, South Korea.

According to the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, the suspect allegedly struck the infant's face and head approximately ten times because she would not stop crying. The child was rushed to the hospital in cardiac arrest but passed away during treatment.

Investigators used digital forensics to recover home camera footage that the suspect had attempted to delete remotely via his smartphone following the child's death. The restored footage reportedly contains the sounds of the infant crying and the suspected physical assault.

The suspect denied having intent to kill, stating he acted out of irritation, and expressed remorse while being transferred to custody. Police confirmed that the suspect's wife was in another room at the time and had no knowledge of the incident, and no prior history of abuse was identified.
