South Korean Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Killing 3-Month-Old Son

A 30‑year‑old man (referred to as A) in Kimhae, South Korea, killed his 3‑month‑old son after his wife left the home. The night before the murder, he invited a prostitute to his residence and drank roughly four bottles of soju and 1.5 L of draft beer. In a drunken rage, he repeatedly struck the infant, causing fatal head injuries.

The Changwon District Court convicted A of child‑abuse homicide under the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes and sentenced him to ten years in prison. The court also ordered him to complete a 40‑hour child‑abuse treatment program and imposed a ten‑year ban on employment in child‑related institutions. A’s claim of lack of intent and intoxication was rejected.
