South Korean maritime industries focus on AI and decarbonization

South Korean maritime and industrial sectors are focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) integration and decarbonization. In Ulsan, the city is hosting the 3rd World Future Industry Expo (WAVE) 2026, which emphasizes Industrial AI Transformation (AX). The event showcases technologies in AI, mobility, shipbuilding, and clean energy, aiming to connect technology suppliers with industrial demand.

Simultaneously, Busan hosted the 2026 Kormarine Conference, bringing together 400 experts from eight countries to discuss the future of the shipbuilding and shipping industries. Key topics included decarbonization strategies, international environmental regulations, and the use of AI for autonomous vessels.

To expand global market reach, six companies from Ulsan will participate in the SMM 2026 exhibition in Hamburg, Germany. These companies will showcase eco-friendly energy technologies, autonomous unmanned surface vehicles, and specialized marine protection films to secure new international export opportunities.
