South Korean medical CCTV footage leaked to overseas porn sites
South Korean police have launched an investigation into the renewed circulation of stolen medical surveillance footage on overseas pornography websites. An investigation by lawmaker Heo Jong-sik revealed that 80 videos, filmed between February 2022 and November 2023, are being distributed online. The footage depicts patients in various stages of treatment or changing clothes in clinics including obstetrics and gynecology, plastic surgery, traditional Korean medicine, and rehabilitation departments.
Of the identified videos, 21 are linked to a single obstetrics and gynecology clinic in Seoul. While four suspects were arrested last year for the initial hacking and sale of these recordings, the material has resurfaced on different international sites. The leaks are believed to have originated from the hacking of Internet Protocol (IP) cameras, which are known for security vulnerabilities.
The Chungbuk Provincial Police Agency has been assigned to investigate the redistribution of the content. Lawmaker Heo has called for a full security audit of medical institution CCTV systems and urged the Ministry of Health and Welfare to cooperate with law enforcement to identify the sources of the leaks and prevent further human rights violations.
