South Korean men's volleyball team enters Asian Championship

The South Korean men's national volleyball team, currently ranked 26th in the world, will compete in the 2026 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship starting on the 4th in Kitakyushu, Japan. The tournament serves as a critical pathway for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with the championship winner earning a direct qualifying spot.

South Korea is placed in Group C and is scheduled to face Taiwan on the 4th, Thailand on the 7th, and Qatar on the 8th. Beyond the championship title, the top three teams will secure spots in the 2027 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Cup. For South Korea, which has not participated in the Olympics since the 2000 Sydney Games, a top-three finish and accumulating high world ranking points through the World Cup are viewed as the most viable routes to Olympic qualification.

Competition is expected to be high, with host nation Japan, China, and Iran positioned as major contenders.
