South Korean municipalities conduct specialized disaster response drills
Local governments in South Korea are conducting the ‘2026 Disaster Response Safety Korea Training’ to enhance emergency preparedness across different sectors.
In Sacheon City, a large-scale joint drill is scheduled for October 28 at the Samcheonpo Gymnasium and Samcheonpo General Stadium. The exercise simulates a complex disaster scenario starting with an electric vehicle explosion during charging, with flames spreading to public facilities and nearby residential areas due to strong winds. Approximately 200 personnel and 30 vehicles from 14 organizations, including the Sacheon Fire Station, police, and various public utilities, will participate in tasks such as drone-led searches, specialized electric vehicle fire suppression, and infrastructure recovery.
In Jungnang-gu, a drill will take place on October 20 at the Sinnae Senior Nursing Home. This exercise specifically focuses on the challenges of evacuating elderly residents with limited mobility. The training involves 13 district departments and nine related agencies, including the Jungnang Fire Station and Korea Electric Power Corporation, to test the entire process from initial response to recovery and support systems for residents.
