South Korean municipalities hold events for Dementia Awareness Day

Local governments in South Korea are hosting various programs to mark the 19th Dementia Awareness Day, focusing on prevention, early detection, and community support.

In Seongnam, the city has organized a series of events from September 8 to 18 across the Sujeong, Jungwon, and Bundang health centers. Activities include health lectures by neurology specialists, film screenings, theatrical performances, and cognitive training workshops. The program also features a walking event at Bundang Central Park to encourage community engagement with dementia prevention.

In Yangcheon-gu, events include a brain health lecture by Professor Kim Geon-ha of Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital on September 9. On September 16, the district will hold a commemorative event at the ‘Green Memory Cafe,’ a space designed to support early-onset dementia patients in maintaining social roles and employment. The celebration will include award ceremonies for contributors, slogan exhibitions, and healing therapy sessions.
