South Korean municipalities prepare for 2026 disaster response drills
Local governments in South Korea, including Yeoju and Yongsan, are conducting final preparations and planning for the 2026 Disaster Response Safety Korea Training. These drills are designed to test the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation and response systems during complex disaster scenarios.
In Yeoju, officials held a planning meeting to review scenarios involving large-scale fires at logistics warehouses, which could lead to casualties, traffic disruptions, and water pollution. The training will integrate discussion-based exercises with real-time field drills to strengthen the coordination between the city, fire departments, and gas safety agencies.
In Yongsan, the drill will take place at a GTX-B construction site, simulating simultaneous disasters such as heavy rainfall, wind damage, and crowd surges. Approximately 400 participants, including the Korea National Railway, police, fire services, and medical teams, will practice emergency procedures ranging from initial situation reporting to rescue and facility recovery.
