South Korean officials earn AI certifications for public administration

Public officials in South Korea are receiving specialized certifications for applying artificial intelligence to administrative tasks through the ‘AI Champion’ program, led by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the National Information Society Agency (NIA).

In Seongnam, officials Kim Dong-ju and Park Jeong-mi earned Blue and Green certifications, respectively. The Blue level signifies the ability to plan, design, and execute AI transformation projects, while the Green level focuses on improving work efficiency using generative AI. Seongnam has been fostering these skills through its ‘Deep Learning Crew’ (DLC) employee club.

In Gangnam-gu, officials Kim Taek-jung and Lee Ju-han achieved Blue certification. Kim utilized AI to analyze tax delinquency data, identifying 232 individuals in need of welfare support and developing 12 automation tools for repetitive tasks. Lee developed an ‘AI Civil Complaint Analysis Management System’ that automatically extracts keywords and performs sentiment analysis on public inquiries to improve service delivery.

Both local governments intend to use these individual achievements to enhance organizational AI capabilities by encouraging training and sharing successful automation cases across departments.
