South Korean officials focus on urban safety and cleanliness

In South Korea, legislative and local government efforts are being directed toward improving urban safety and cleanliness. Representative Park Kyun-taek of the Democratic Party has introduced the ‘Night Safety Act,’ which consists of two proposed amendments to the Pedestrian Safety Act and the Autonomous Crime Prevention Act. The legislation aims to establish standards for street lighting brightness and prioritize environmental improvements in high-risk crime areas. It also seeks to expand support for local autonomous crime prevention units by providing funding for equipment, uniforms, and the operation of patrol posts.

Concurrently, Dangjin City conducted a large-scale cleanliness campaign in its old downtown area ahead of the Chuseok holiday. Local officials and residents worked together to collect abandoned waste and organize vulnerable alleyways to prepare for returning travelers and visitors. Mayor Kim Ki-jae emphasized that maintaining a clean urban environment is essential for resident satisfaction and the city's regional image.
