South Korea finishes 5th at Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games

South Korea concluded the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games with 100 total medals, including 29 gold, 38 silver, and 33 bronze, securing 5th place overall. While the team exceeded its initial goal of 21 gold medals, the final ranking dropped one spot compared to the previous Hangzhou games.

Notable successes included a record-breaking performance in table tennis, where athletes Yun Ji-yu and Kim Hyun-uk each secured three gold medals. Track and field star Jang Min-ho also stood out, setting an Asian record in the 100m and a world record in the 400m. Additionally, the wheelchair rugby and wheelchair fencing teams achieved historic first-ever gold medals for South Korea at the Asian Para Games.

Despite these achievements, the delegation faced challenges in foundational sports such as athletics and swimming, which contributed only three gold medals combined. Traditional strongholds like boccia and shooting also fell short of expectations. Officials noted the need to expand the talent pool in core disciplines and develop new strategies to maintain competitiveness ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
