South Korean Police Arrest Three for Operating Illegal Video Distribution Site
South Korean authorities, led by the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency, have arrested three individuals for operating an illegal website that distributed approximately 20,000 illicitly filmed and sexual exploitation videos. The group operated the site from overseas, including Thailand, starting around May 2025.
The suspects generated revenue by posting banner advertisements for gambling and prostitution. To evade detection and government blocking measures, they utilized overseas servers, communicated via Telegram, and accepted advertising payments in cryptocurrency. They also operated dedicated landing pages to redirect users to new site addresses whenever the primary domain was blocked.
Following 32 instances of international cooperation and 56 search warrants, police identified and apprehended a 41-year-old male suspect in Bangkok, Thailand, through a joint operation with Thai police and Interpol. He was extradited to South Korea on October 8 and detained on October 10. Subsequently, two domestic accomplices, a 35-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man, were also located and arrested. Police have frozen 200 million won in suspected criminal proceeds and requested that the site hosting provider terminate its services.
