South Korean police officers face prosecution over falsified overtime claims and drunk‑driving hit‑and‑run probe

Gwangju Southern Police Station reported that two of its officers were referred to prosecutors for fabricating overtime work records to obtain extra pay. The officers allegedly entered false computer logs and approvals between March and August of the previous year, claiming roughly 40 hours of overtime each month, some of which investigators judged to be fraudulent. Police said an internal audit will be conducted following the referral.

In Daegu, police carried out raids on three facilities – the security and guard division, the traffic investigation division, and a precinct – as part of an investigation into a serving officer accused of driving under the influence, colliding with a parked vehicle in Suseong‑gu and fleeing the scene. The raids aim to determine whether any procedural irregularities occurred during the ongoing investigation.
